According to various sources, including eurosport.fr, L'Equipe.fr and others, Tati withdrew from the tournament this afternoon. She has been on the courts of Roland Garros since the beginning of the week, working with Georges Goven and testing whether her injured (or to be more precise, problematic) ankle could withstand the physical strain.
Obviously this is not the case, so even though she was still in doubt yesterday, she eventually made this painful decision to withdraw from her beloved tournament today. This should be officially announced tomorrow at 4:30 PM during a press conference.

Although most of her fans would probably love to see her in action again, I think it is a wise decision, even more so when we take into account the amount of practice she has had recently. Moreover, since her clay season is over now, this will give her more time to adapt to grass - the surface she has not played on since the last Wimbledon. So let us hope she recovers soon and has enough time to get ready for Birmingham, the next tournament on her schedule. Get well soon Tati! :)

So even the yesterday's phone interview with Tati does not reveal whether she is going to be at Roland Garros or not.

She says she has one training session per day now and she is doing rather well, but of course the strain is
not as intense as it is going to be in a regular match.
Anyway, our Frenchwoman still has three days left to make her decision, as for now, she says "I still dunno...".

Obviously she still needs some time to test her ankle in training sessions, however, she will have to make her decision before the main draw is announced, which means this Friday at 11:30 AM.

Let us hope she is not too hasty...

That is the question of the past few days. After Tati doubted her attendance at Roland Garros in the Wednesday edition of L'Equipe, today's le Parisien claims something completely different - according to the newspaper our young Frenchwoman confirmed yesterday that she would take part in the Grand Slam.

The questions lie ready to hand: Which source is more reliable? If she has changed her mind, why so quickly and unexpectedly? Does it mean she is really ready for RG or does she only want to keep her dreams alive?

Unfortunately, the only person who holds the key to the answers is her, and she will not tell us. Yet she knows about the nature of her injury more than anyone else (save the physicians in Paris of course), so I am sure Tati makes the right decision when the time comes. Till then, let us keep our fingers crossed for her.

*edit 18/05 - Today's L'Equipe comes up with another statement, this time quoting Alain Nédelec, one of the physiotherapists of the French Fed Cup team. This man, who is in a permanent contact with Tati claims that our young Frenchwoman has started with some physical exercise and she has even resumed her on-court practice, though the pain in her ankle has not faded out completely. Still, it is too early to say if she plays at Roland Garros or not, he concludes.

According to the two articles published in today's L'Equipe it seems that Tati will most likely skip this year's RG.  The translations are below:

“Roland Garros seems unlikely”

After a right ankle injury that ruined her chances at Roland Garros last year, Tati suffers from her left ankle injury this time. (obviously there's a mistake, however that's what L'Equipe says;)). To be more specific, it’s a bone oedema, which hampers her chances to compete in the Paris tournament. “I haven’t played for about three weeks now and Roland Garros starts in less than fortnight, so I obviously have doubts... ”, she confessed.

Tatiana Golovin suffers from a left ankle oedema. Her attendance at Roland Garros seems unlikely.

“I have doubts”

A victory at Amelia Island, an amazing run at Charleston prior to her retirement in quarterfinals and an excellent performance in Fed Cup against Japan – Tatiana Golovin seemed predestined to a great clay season. But the physical strain put on her body has taken its toll and now she suffers from a left ankle oedema, which heals rather slowly. That’s why France’s no. 2 is rather pessimistic about her attendance at Rolland Garros.

You have passed an MRI examination, what does it say about the nature of your injury?

- Obviously, there’s a slight improvement, but that’s all. The oedema is still there. Normally, an injury like this requires a six-weeks rest. I haven’t played for about three weeks now and Roland Garros starts in less than fortnight, so I obviously have doubts...

Does it mean you’re gonna withdraw?
- Well that’s all I know for now, it depends on the examinations I’m going to pass in the days to come. The “doc” (Daubinet, the physician of the French Fed Cup team) thinks I can start with some light exercise and we’ll see if it hurts or not. If it does, he won’t insist on pushing on. If the pain’s going to fade away, then I have a chance to be at RG.

Just a year ago you were in a very similar situation, you played at Paris and it didn’t end up well...
 - Yes, a year ago I had the same problem, but with my other ankle (a serious ankle sprain sustained at Miami). I shouldn’t have played at Roland Garros because the ankle wasn’t really cured, I lost in the first round and it ruined my Wimbledon campaign too. I’m not gonna make the same mistake this year. If it means I won't play at Roland Garros, so be it!

And how about your moral?
 - I try to be positive. It’s the best thing I can do to come back soon and stronger than I was before.

So Tati please recover soon and completely so your career is not hampered by your ankles anymore!
